Requirments for admission to master's degree programs

 

Regular Admission

 

The main requirements for regular admission to a Master’s degree program offered at Kuwait University are as follows:

 

1.     he should have a Bachelors degree or its equivalent confferred by Kuwait University or by an acadamic institution recognized by Kuwait University equalized by the committe Kuwait University with to-whom-it concern latter from the Ministry of Higher Education State of Kuwait.

2.      Having a minimum overall average of 2.67 points and a minimum specialization average of 3.00 points on a scale of 4.00 or the equivalent.  The following applicants may be exempted from the academic level requirements recipients  of Bachelors degree in medicine surgery or Dentistry from Kuwait University or the equivalent of that degree , they are applying for admission to programs in the Faculty of Medicine or Faculty of dentistry.  

 

 3.      Having the minimum level of language proficiency specified for the program to which admission is sought. [Refer to the refer

4.      An employed applicant who is admitted as a full-time student must submit a written decision on study mission from the concerned authority.

5.      The applicant must fulfill the additional conditions which are approved by CGS and required by the program to which he/she wants to join.  Such conditions may include passing preliminary tests and /or any additional courses.

6.      The applicant should not have been academically dismissed from the program to which he/she is applying for admission.

7.      The applicant should not have had disciplinary action taken against him/her by any academic institution.

8.      The applicant should not have obtained a Graduate Diploma from the same program.

9.      The applicant for admision to the MBA ana Economics program has to submit a GMAT score of at least 450 points.

 

Provisional  Admission 

 

An applicant is given provisional admission status if he/she does not satisfy one or more of the requirements for regular admission and a decision is made to admit him/her on exceptional basis as in the following cases:

 

1.      If the Program Committee recommends admission on condition that the applicant passes additional courses for a maximum of 15 credit hours.

2.      If the applicant is a disabled person who has a minimum over-all average of 2.33 points and a specialization average of at least 2.50 on the scale of 4.00 in undergraduate courses.

 

Provisionally admitted students will have to satisfy all the conditions of admission within the given period (usually one semester) so that their status can be changed to regular.  Failure to satisfy those conditions will result in the academic dismissal.

 

 

Requirments for admission to Ph.D programs 

1.      he should have a Bachelors degree or its equivalent confferred by Kuwait University or by an acadamic institution recognized by Kuwait University equalized by the committe Kuwait University with to-whom-it concern latter from the Ministry of Higher Education State of Kuwait.

2.     The applicant who holds a Master’s Degree conferred by an academic institution other than Kuwait University should pass a test or more, determined by the academic Program.  The test result should indicate that the applicant is academically prepared to pursue Ph.D. studies.

3.      The applicant who holds a Master’s Degree conferred by an academic institution other than Kuwait University must be proficient in the language of instruction of the program to which he/she wants to join.

4.      An applicant to a program in which Arabic is the language of instruction must be proficient in another language determined by the concerned academic department.  The College of Graduate Studies sets the minimum level of language proficiency.

5.      An employed applicant who is admitted as a full-time student must submit a written decision on study mission from the concerned authority.

6.      The applicant must fulfill any additional conditions required by the program which he/she wants to join.

 

Applying for admission to master's or Ph.D programs

 

Application Form

 

Each applicant is required to complete one application form. 

 

Required Documents

 

The completed application form is to be submitted together with the following documents.

1.       Three completed “Letter of Recommendation” forms [to be sent directly to College of Graduate Studies by the recommender].

2.        A final transcript showing grades obtained in undergraduate courses [original or certified copy].

3.        The Bachelor’s degree [original or certified copy].

4.        A valid language test result. [refer to the table on language requirements].

5.        A copy of Civil Identity Card and original for comparison.

6.        Two personal colored photographs [size 4cm x 6cm].

7.        Copy of passport for confirming the accuracy of English name.

8.        Completed form entitled “Application for Full-time study” in the case of applicants who want to be admitted as full-time students.

9.       Original or certified copy of Master’s degree and graduate transcript for those who are applying for admission to the Ph.D. program.

 10.       A certificate not less than 3 years of working experience for applications for admission to the program of Education .

11.       A certificate of experience for applications for admission to the program of higher diploma in public Administration .   

   

Deadline

 

Applications are submitted during the period which is advertised by the College every year for admission in the subsequent academic year which normally starts in September.

Remarks on Language Requirements:

 

1.     The College of Graduate studies reserves the right to change the minimum level of required language test score for any graduate program without further notice.  The applicant should, therefore, check with the Admission section of the College for the latest information.

2.      Applicants for admission  should submit the required language test score indicated in the above table, together with their applications.  

3-     Applicants for admission to Master’s programs who graduated from U.S.A. , U.K , Canada and Australia Universities are exempted from English language requirements except MBA.

4.    Applicants for Ph.D. Programs who received Master’s degrees from Kuwait University or U.S , U.K,Canada and Australia  Universities are exempled from English language requirements.

5.       Validity of language test scores is two years.

 

other  Requirements:

 

1.      Applicants for admission to the MBA and Economic  program are required to have a GMAT score of at least 450 points.

2.    Applicants for admission to the Education program are required to have Diploma of education three years experience in the educational field if they are not graduates of the College of Education.  

 

Important note:

 

1.     Application should be submitted to the College of Graduate studies in person. The applicant should have a valid Civil ID Card issued by the relevant Kuwait Authority.

2.     All degrees and certificates obtained after undergraduate studies should be submitted with the application.

  3.     Programs of Sharia and islamic studies submitty applications is Alternatively open one year for girl and the other 

         for girls.
