Non-degree students are those who register for graduate courses in accordance with the conditions stipulated in article 11 of the Graduate college by-laws. These students are not considered to be enrolled for an academic degree. They may, however, apply for admission to the relevant Master’s degree programs after passing at least 12 graduate course credits and satisfying other requirements specified by the College of Graduate Studies.

 

 

Programs and GPA Requirements

 

 There are 18 Master,s degree programs in which graduate courses can be offered to non-degree students.

  

Conditions for Registration

 

If the student wants to study graduate level courses under the non-degree system he should satisfy the following conditions:

 

1.       He should have a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent conferred by Kuwait University or by an academic institution recognized by Kuwait University equalized by the Committee Kuwait University with to- whom –it may concern latter from the Ministry of Higher Education, state of Kuwait.

 

2.      He should have the minimum grade Point Average [GPA] determined for the graduate program in which he wants to register.

3.      He will be required to pay the remuneration determined by the University. The current amount is KD 50 for each reregistered course credit.

 

4.      In case of withdrawal from some or all of the registered courses, with the approval of the College of Graduate Studies, 50% of the amount paid for registering those courses will be refunded provided that the refund is requested within the period specified in the academic calendar of the College issued at the beginning of each semester.

 

5.      The non-degree student is not allowed to register courses which are below 500 levels.

 

6.      Applicant  for registration in the non-degree system should submit the required English language test .        

 

Procedure for Registration

 

1.       If the student wants to register under the non-degree system for the first time, he has to complete a form entitled “Application for studying as a non-degree student” found in the appendix of the publication entitled to " General information on non-degree system.

 

2.       The student should submit the completed form and all the required documents to the Admission Section in the College of Graduate Studies during the specified period for opening files of non-degree students. The required documents include:

 

A)  Copy of valid Civil Identity Card with the original for verification.

B)  Original transcript or certified copy.

C)  Original Graduation Certificate or certified copy.

D)  1 colored photograph [4cm X 6cm].

E)  Copy of Passport for checking the accuracy of English name.

F)  Valid Language test result .   

 

Transcript

 

The College of Graduate Studies shall issue a transcript showing the grade obtained in all courses studied by the student.

 

 Important note

 

A non-degree student whose application for studying courses in one of the graduate programs has been approved, is not allowed to postpone studies and should register during the first semester/year following that approval. Otherwise the approval shall be considered cancelled. If a non-degree student interrupts studies for more than 4 successive semesters, he will have to re-apply.

 

Applying for admission to a degree program

 

A non-degree student who has successfully completed level courses at Kuwait University may apply for admission to the relevant Master’s degree program using the form entitled “Application for admission (for former non-degree students)” if he/she satisfies the following requirements:

 

1.      The applicant should have passed at least 12 graduate credits.

2.      The overall average in a graduate courses studied by the applicant must not be less than 3.00 points out the scale of 4.00.

3.      The applicant must fulfill any additional conditions approved by CGS and required by the program to which he/she 

        wants to join.

 

Approval of courses

 

In the case of non-degree students who are admitted after studying graduate courses at Kuwait University, only courses of 500 level or above for a maximum of 18 credit hours are approved by the College of Graduate Studies on the following conditions:

 

1.      The grade obtained in each course should not be less than 3.00 points on the scale of 4.00.

2.      The period between passing the course and its approval should not exceed two years.

3.      Each approved course should be a requirement in the program to which the student is admitted.

 

The Credit hours of the approved courses are counted toward the degree and included in the calculation of the student’s Grade Point Average.
